Not Much New

Actually - nothing new to blog about.

Reflections on the Duke Game

Last year State had 1 junior player turn pro, another junior starter decided to play baseball full time (he'll be playing professional baseball after he graduates) and the third junior has been out this season with a long term injury. Those 3 guys would have been senior starters this year.

We had 2 major recruits that we let out of their commitments after Sendeck left.

So, this year with new coach Sidney Lowe, we have an all underclassman team (save 1 injured senior) as our starters. Our starters would be solid bench players for any other ACC team but they're not quite up to ACC starter caliber. With senior Engin Atsur injured, our starting line up consists of 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores and 1 junior.

We play really hard and never give up. But against a team like Duke last Saturday - we just can't keep up.

I love watching these guys play - losing not withstanding. They play their hearts out each game. I just hope they don't get discouraged as the season winds on to March.

Coach is getting the absolute most out of these guys. And their prime direction from Coach Lowe is to have fun playing.

Word on the street is that recruiting is going great. So if all goes well with recruiting and with the tough experience our guys are getting this year - in a couple of years we should be competitive with the likes of Duke and Carolina. In fact, I think we'll see a dramatic improvement next year.

Puppies

Roomie JN gave the dogs a bath today. They're all clean, fluffy and smelling good. Right now they're both plopped down in front of the fire place to finish drying off.

Vacation

Just realized today that it's only 3 weeks till I head off for another cruise vacation with the family. I just went on one after Thanksgiving so this one is kind of quickly sneaking up on me. I'm really looking forward to it.
