Santo Tomas is poor. The things ‘to do’ in this part of Guatemala are the nature tours such as seeing the waterfalls and jungle. The town itself is a small industrial city.
We went into town and wondered around. The town is very very poor. In spite of appearances, it’s quite safe. Touristas from the ship were few to none besides us.
Photos are from local stores in the center of town and a bar on the corner of the main crossroads. JN made friends with a handicapped guy in the bar and attempted to pay him a dollar to keep the other beggars away. I think what really happened was that the guy sent out word that a crazy gringo was giving away money.
