Duke Plays State Thursday

It took all 6 games this weekend to determine seeding for the ACC Tournament.

Of course, now that the NCAA has 65 teams - Conference Tournaments aren't nearly as important as they used to be when only the Conference Tournament winner went to the NCAA's.

Still, Conference Tournaments can make or break a team that's "on the bubble" - good play and advance will get you an at large bid. Get bounced out in the first round and you're headed for the NIT.

Number 7 seed Dook plays number 10 seed NCSU Thursday night at 7 PM.

Unfortunately, Duke's Gerald Henderson will be suspended for the game. While his not being in the game Thursday will help State's chances of victory - Henderson should not have been thrown out of the UNC - Duke game for a 'flagrant intentional foul' - which means he's also automatically suspended for the next game.

It was a hard foul to be sure - but it was not a flagrant intentional foul.

Tyler Hansbrough was trying to go up for a slam dunk in a crowd under the basket - Henderson was in position to block the shot - the ball was knocked away before Henderson hand got to it - and bam! Hansbrough ends up with a whacked nose.

The real question is - Why was all this going on with 15 seconds left in a game that was long over?

Hansbaby was trying to show off with an impossible dunk - In fact - what was he even doing in the game with less than 20 seconds left? As a matter of fact, Roy, why were any of your starters still in the game with at this point? Roy? Roy?

All Henderson did was make a hard defensive play.

Anyway - End Result - Hansbaby's nose is not broken (Monday afternoon news reports a 'slight' fracture - he'll be fitted with a face guard) and Henderson has to sit out Thursday's game.

March Madness begins.

Bill, you are clueless on this one. Henderson was going for a hard foul, and he got one. Maybe he didn't mean for it to do that much damage, but he clearly (at least in the eyes of nearly every major sports publication)intended to send a message. And if it was all just a big mistake, why didn't he show remorse as soon as he hit the floor after the shot? Because he got the results he intended, that's why.

And Tyler was in because the dook starters (those that had not fouled out yet) were still in. They were still pressing and fouling, remember that is why Tyler was on the line to start with. If K had pulled his guys with a minute to go so would have Roy. But would you expect K to do that? Of course not, I wouldn't expect Roy to do it either if faced with the same situation.

This is nothing more than the team reflecting the attitude of the coach. And that is why it never happened at Carolina under Dean or Bill, or even Matt, and won't under Roy. I remember a game where the fans got a little too vocal and Dean grabbed the mic and told them to cut that stuff out, that we didn't do that kind of thing at Carolina. Can you imagine Coach K doing that at Cameron? I thought not.

I think they all have it wrong. This is a kinder, gentler, game and I just think that Duke guy was trying to put his arm around Hansbaby. Hansbaby thinks so too. Further, I think Hansbaby looks nice in his mask.
