Sunday 5/25/2008

Went into Raleigh Saturday to see the NC Symphony. They were recording an educational CD for grade schools so the music was parts of various pieces. Listened to some Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Gershwin. I’m not a big fan of Gershwin.

Learned that both Tchaikovsky and Debussy had the same financial benefactor / sponsor.

On the way into Raleigh, we saw a racing shopping cart.

Not something you see everyday on the road.

Actually, not something you see everyday period. LOL

Sunday, watched To Be And To Have on DVD. A very nice uplifting documentary about school teaching.

Sunday 5/18/08

Let's see - Picked up the Nuke'ster at the airport on Saturday. He's back in the States for his 3 week break from Oman.

Went out for breakfast this morning then grocery shopping.

Later today Nuke and I went over to the Sanford Downtown Park where the Sanford Community Orchestra performed. The orchestra has picked up a lot more members this year.

I left my camera in the car so no pictures.

I'm working at NCSU for the next few weeks. I'll stop in the office once in a while but I'm basically working out of a conference room on campus for the duration.

That's about it.

Endorsement

After the Democratic nomination for President is essentially a done deal, irrelevant former 1-term senator finally endorses Barack Obama.

I Voted

Primary Day in North Carolina

There were quite a number of us sitting in our cars this morning waiting for the polls to open at 0630.

Out here in the country, we go to work early so we have to vote early.

I was number 18 in line to vote at Precinct B, Deep River Township, Lee County, North Carolina.

The post and sign thing with the cable in the drive is the bell ringer to let the volunteers inside know if someone needs to 'curbside vote'.

When I was leaving, there was a steady stream of cars driving into the Deep River Elementary School parking lot with people coming to vote.

Tulips, Lilies and Daffodils, Oh My

The plan was to have the Daffodils, Tulips and Lilies bloom at different times. More importantly, to have them all bulbs so they will bloom year after year.

It worked. Sort of.

The Daffodils bloomed first - 3 of them. The tulips bloomed second - 2 of them. Now the lilies are all blooming at once. Tons of them.

The stalks are bending over - I think because the flowers are so large and heavy. This is the largest pot. 2 daffodil and 1 tulip plants grew.

In the medium pot - looks like it will be the last of the tulip blooming. A little more successful with daffodils that grew.

The smallest pot had lilies that bloomed first. Also, 4 tulip plants grew (but didn't bloom) and 6 daffodils grew (but did not bloom).

I didn't realize how ratty the daffodils would look after they bloomed. They're still green - but droopy and rather sad looking. I've found out this is normal.

The tulips are still sturdy and upright - but the flower just didn't bloom. The buds were there - but they shriveled up. May have been under watered or over watered - I don't know.

But the tulips - wow - they are coming in like crazy.

I might rethink my strategy and remove the tulip and daffodil bulbs.

This guy was hanging around while I was taking pictures. I think he was looking for food handouts.

Can't see him?

May 1, 2003: Mission Accomplished.

This man's arrogance and stupidity . . . . .

At this point, I'm just beyond words.
