Cape Fear River Ferry
Drove down to Southport Saturday morning to collect Nuke who's been visiting with his folks.
On NC Highway 87 just south of Elizabethtown is a little cross roads named Carver. At Carver you can take the side road towards the Cape Fear River where you'll come to a small 2 car ferry operated by NC DOT.
Couldn't take the ferry across the river today though - the heavy rains of the past few days and high winds today kept the ferry closed.
We've been in an extreme drought for well over a year now. To not be able to cross the river due to high water is actually kind of a nice turn of events.
Still - it's a pretty cool little river crossing.

Recall the Christmas day journey on White's Ferry, when the ferry became stuck in the middle of the semi-frozen river with ice on the cables? I felt so sorry for the men trying to free the ferry--actually it was a little scary to be bobbing about.
