Classic Ride
My work involves inspections of State owned buildings. Often, I'll post photos of neat buildings or places that where I've worked.
The past few days we've been working at the various State office and laboratory buildings along Blue Ridge Road.
One of these buildings is the Motor Fleet Management garage and office. This is where maintenance and repairs are done for state owned vehicles in the greater Raleigh / Triangle area.
In the lower level of the building is a large storage / warehouse area. Mostly tires are stored there along with an area for office gatherings and such.
Along the back wall (actually the front wall of the building but it's the back wall from where you enter the area) is kept a 1977 Cadillac limousine.
It's the official governor's limo but it hasn't been really used in the past 4 or 5 years.
Most governors prefer to be driven around in standard, unmarked, Highway Patrol cars such as Ford Crown Victorias or Chevrolet Impalas. It's nice to know that our governors, like most North Carolinians, prefer not to be show offs nor care to draw a lot of attention to themselves. Just regular, down to earth, folks.
It's worth nothing that the Caddy is kept in perfect running order, and it's inspection and tags are kept up to date. You can see in the photo the license plate is 2008.
They tell me the Caddy is basically kept up in case of really special occasions. Such as the drive to the Inauguration or to use for visiting dignitaries and stuff like that.
Pretty nice 30 year old ride.
I didn't know you could still get tires with wide whitewalls.
